The limitations of the BS1970:2012

What are the limitations of the BS1970:2012 test report?

The BS testing report responsible for rubber Hot water bottle samples only.

There are lots of difference between sample making and mass production. In many cases, the manufacturer will charge the customer sample making fee, so the quality of the sample is better. The mold will be cleaned and repaired before the sample is produced, but in mass production, even if the mold is damaged to a certain extent, many manufacturers will not repair the mold but continue to produce in order to meet the delivery date.


Natural rubber content

When an importer orders hot water bottles with 55% rubber content from a supplier, the manufacturer will only use 50%-52% rubber content. When you order hot water bottles with 50% rubber content, the manufacturer will only use 45% rubber. This is the unspoken rule of the China rubber hot water bottle factory. Many years ago rubber hot water bottle factory use open rubber mixing machine finish natural rubber mixing process, The disadvantage of using an open mixer is that rubber and other additives are not fully integrated so in the past the rubber content was almost the real thing. Due to the progress of science and technology, the current manufacturers use the closed rubber mixer to fully fuse the natural rubber in advance before using the open rubber mixer, only using the open rubber mixer to add sulfur. The advantage of this process is that because rubber and other additives can be fully integrated, the rubber content can still be reduced to a certain tension.

At present, the real rubber content of rubber hot water bottles exported from China is 45%-52%, and there are few real 55%. But this point will not be reflected in the BS testing report.


Test for separation of screw stoppers

You can ignor words in charpet Annex D(normative) D.1 and D.2 if the rubber hot water bottle you import is Polypropylene screw stopper. When you cut the bottle off you will find the Nylon filling aperture acturally surrounded by stiffener inside, very strong. What's more, the Polypropylene screw stopper and Nylon filling aperture will wonly working tighter, this is material characteristics.


If your hot water bottle is made by copper filling aperture and ABS engineering plastic screw stopper with a rubber washer, Even it pass testing it also can't gurantee quality because copper filling aperture connect to rubber via Chemlok 6150, Over time, they will only become looser, this also material characteristics.


Rubber

The BS testing report will never show you natural rubber manufacturing date, You don't know if this is longtime storaged rubber or new birth natural rubber. What's the difference? the two types of rubber have a retail price difference of 500-600 RMB per ton.


Thickness

You can find rubber hot water bottle thickness information at BS 1970:2012 page 3, it says when capacity(ml) less than 2000, minimum thickness is 1.4mm. When capacity bigger than 2000ml, minimum thickness is 1.5mm.

Well, when you cut your BS hot water bottle off and measure the thickness and you'll see capacity less than 2000ml bottle's  body thickness at least 1.6mm, 2000ml bottle's thickness at least 1.8mm.

The thickness and rubber content is connected. When manufacturer make mold core thickness thinner, the hot water bottle thickness will be thicker which means the bottle can endure greater tension and tearing force. Factory also will reduce rubber content to save cost. use machine make mold core thicker only charge 30-60 RMB by mold supplier. Hot water bottle manufacturer use 52% rubber content instead of real 55% rubber content making hot water bottle can save at least 200,000 RMB budget per year.
